Role | Architect on Concept Design

The USS Recruit, a.k.a. USS Neversail, was commissioned as a landlocked training ship located at what is now Liberty Station in San Diego. After closure of the training ship, it laid empty for decades. The firm saw this as an opportunity to propose the reuse of the ship in alignment with the base's hundredth anniversary in 2023. The design took cues from the success of restaurant and bar spaces on the north end of Liberty Station as well as paying homage to the history of the ship and surrounding area with a museum component. The addition of a large sail provides necessary shade for the main deck while poking fun at the nickname of the ship.
